The Medieval World: Map & Source Companion

Six map stops for Phillip Campbell's The Medieval World. Each stop groups a handful of chapters around a dated atlas view, a family question, and voices or records from the period. This is an independent companion and does not reproduce the book.

The rhythm

  1. Open the Family Learning Lab atlas and jump to the suggested year.
  2. Orient yourself before reading: identify seas, travel corridors, neighboring powers, and uncertain borders.
  3. Read the listed chapters in The Story of Civilization, Volume II: The Medieval World.
  4. Discuss the family question. There is no single required answer.
  5. Open one period voice or record and ask who created it, for whom, and why.

A note on perspective

The book tells an engaging Catholic-centered narrative. This companion adds geographic scale, Byzantine and Islamic neighbors, ordinary work, and source comparison. It is independent of the author and publisher and does not reproduce the book.
